Laser treatment for vascular lesions can reduce or eliminate visible blood vessels in the skin using targeted light energy.

What injuries can be treated?

The laser makes it possible to treat various vascular lesions of the skin, in particular:

  • angioma planus (wine stain)
  • stellar angioma
  • couperose (facial vascular dilations)
  • small varicose veins in the legs

Principle of treatment

The treatment is based on the use of a laser that specifically targets visible blood vessels in the skin.

Light energy is absorbed by hemoglobin in the vessel, causing it to gradually be destroyed while maintaining surrounding tissue.

Depending on the type and extent of injury, several sessions may be required to obtain an optimal result.

Precautions before and during treatment

Certain precautions must be respected in order to limit the risk of complications.

Exposure to the sun

  • avoid sun exposure or UV cabin during treatment
  • do not treat tanned skin
  • apply very high protection sun protection (SPF 50+) before any exposure
  • wear a hat or appropriate protection during outdoor activities

Drugs and plants to avoid

In the 10 days prior to the session, it is recommended to avoid certain medications or substances that can increase skin sensitivity, including:

  • some antibiotics (Ciproxin, Noroxin)
  • some antidepressants
  • preparations containing St. John's Wort (Hypericum)

Medical advice is important in order to adapt the treatment if necessary.

Aftermath of treatment

After the session, some skin reactions are normal:

  • diffuse redness usually occurs immediately after treatment
  • slight edema (swelling) may also be observed

These reactions are temporary and disappear gradually.

Makeup can generally be applied to disguise redness if needed.
