Lasers for hair removal: diode, alexandrite and pulsed light

Laser hair removal is now one of the most used technologies to permanently reduce hair growth. Modern systems make it possible to target the hair follicle using specific wavelengths capable of acting on the melanin contained in the hair.
At the Skinpulse Center, several complementary technologies are used in order to adapt the treatment to the type of skin, hair color and the area of the body to be treated.
The main systems used are diode lasers, alexandrite lasers, and some pulsed light technologies.
How does laser hair removal work?
The principle of laser hair removal is based on the absorption of light energy by the melanin present in the hair.
When light is absorbed, it is transformed into heat. This heat is transmitted to the hair follicle, which slows or prevents hair regrowth.
Since not all hairs grow at the same time, several sessions are needed to treat the follicles when they are in an active growth phase.
Vectus™ diode laser — Cynosure
The Vectus™ (Cynosure) is a high power diode laser using a wavelength of 800 nm.
This technology is recognized for its ability to quickly treat large areas of the body while offering good precision.
The system is equipped with a sensor to adapt the energy of the treatment to the patient's skin type.
Alexandrite Elite Plus™ Laser — Cynosure
The Elite Plus™ (Cynosure) combines two laser technologies:
- Alexandrite 755 nm
- Nd:YAG 1064 nm
This dual technology makes it possible to adapt the treatment according to the characteristics of the patient, in particular the skin phototype and the depth of the hair follicle.
The Alexandrite laser is particularly effective for light skin and dark hair.
Optimized pulsed light IPL.sq — Etherea Platform
technology IPL.sq — Ethereum Platform (Vydence) uses an optimized pulsed light called OPL (Optimized Pulsed Light).
Unlike lasers that use a single wavelength, pulsed light diffuses multiple filtered wavelengths to target hair follicles.
This technology can be used in certain aesthetic indications.
Why are multiple technologies used?
Each technology has different characteristics.
The choice of system depends in particular on:
- Of the type of skin
- The color of the hair
- The thickness of the hair
- Of the area to be treated
That is why several technologies can be used in order to obtain the best results.
The importance of prior consultation
Before starting a laser hair removal treatment, a consultation is necessary in order to assess the type of skin, the nature of the hair and the areas to be treated.
This step makes it possible to determine the most suitable technology and to establish a personalized protocol.
